VERGINA

Vergina (in Greek Βεργίνα) is a small town in northern Greece, located in the prefecture of Imathia, Central Macedonia. The town became internationally famous in 1977, when the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos unearthed what he claimed was the burial site of the kings of Macedon, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The finds established the site as the ancient Aigai.
The modern town of Vergina is about 13km south-east of the district centre of Veroia and about 80km south-west of Thessaloniki, the capital of Greek Macedonia. The town has a population of about two thousand people and stands on the foothills of Mount Pieria, at an elevation of 120m (360 ft) above sea level.
STAGIRA

Stagira is a Greek village lying on a picturesque plateau on the Chalcidice peninsula, and standing at the foot of the Argirolofos hill. The village stands a few kilometers south from the ancient Stageira, the birthplace of Aristotle, and a statue of him stands in it. In Byzantine times, Stagira was called Siderokafsia (which means blast furnace). The sultan's mint was located here in the 16th century and many ruins of furnaces can be found close to the village. The present-day village has approximately 500 inhabitants, but including the neighbouring village of Stratoniki, with which Stagira virtually merges, the population increases to around 1500. The central church was built in 1814.
THESSALONIKI

The capital of Macedonia is and to Athens the second largest city of Greece. It lies approx.. 80 km removes. HOLY MOYNTAIN ATHOS

The monk republic on the Athos lives over 1000 years according to the religious rules of the byzantine time. By that originally 40 monasteries also over 4000 monks today still 20 is inhabited and the number of monks on 1700 back went. The Athos is only one museum for Byantine art. During a rungang by the monasteries you by the wandmalereien, the valuable handwriting in the libraries as well as the mosaics and miniatures will be impressed. The admission to the monk republic is forbidden to women. One can book however an organized boat trip, with which one can regard the monasteries from the sea-side.
TROPFSTEINHOEHLE WITH PETRALONA

On Kassandra, the first finger of Chalkidiki, is the tropfsteinhoehle of Petralona. Here 1960 the skeleton of oldest humans of Europe were discovered. It is to have lived more than 700.000 years ago in the ice age. The most important find however were the remainders of a fire place, which could be antedated over 1 million years. Thus this is the oldest fire-purely at all.
METEORA

The Metéora (Greek: Μετέωρα, "suspended rocks", "suspended in the air" or "in the heavens above") is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Kalambaka, Greece and is second only to Mount Athos.[1] The monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Peneios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece. The Metéora is home to six monasteries and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
AMFIPOLIS

The nearby place (approx. 22 km removed), in which the Athener 437 v. Chr. a colony based, offers a historical museum and an excavation place. Here also the "Amfipolis-festival" takes place in the summer months. Before the village close of the bridge over the river Strymon is the famous lion of Amfipolis, a tomb from that 4. jh. v. Chr., whose designer killed itself, after he stated after the completion that he had the tongue of the lion "forgotten".
ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA OF FILLIPPI

Filippi is created the first Christian city of Europe, in the year 359 v. Chr. Here the Apostel Paulus baptized the first European with the name Lydia to the Christin. In the historical place today a chapel of the same name with taufbecken standst. In the archaeological museum local finds are issued from the time that antique, Roman, Byzantine epoch, as well as finds from the praehistorischen settlement Dikili Tas. That antique theatres is revived in the summer months with antique dramas, modern theatre, classical Balett and concerts with internationally renomierten ensembles. Filippi lies approx.. 60 km removes.
DAMP BIOTOPE IN THE NESTOSDELTA

At the damp biotope in the Nestosdelta exists an ecological system of unusual interest, which rare nature beautifulnesses saves. It was placed by the RAMSAR agreement under nature protection. Each year offers the river Nestos arestaurant on their long journey of and to Africa to numerous water birds. All those those the Oekotourismus estimate, is offered the singular possibility for "nut/mother nature" to find here. Nature friends discover her the colonies of the Kormorane, flamingos and fischreiher. CHALKIDIKI

With their three fingers, Kassandra, Sithonia projecting in the sea and Athos, the peninsula Chalkidiki is one of the most beautiful and touristic best opened regions of Macedonia. It offers dense forest, pictorial villages and fantastische beaches and bays also to gold-yellow sand.
KAVALA

Those approx.. 60 km distant port with their pictorial lanes and an old fortress is one of the schmuckstuecke of Macedonia. From here one has a marvelous view on the pre-aged island Thassos and on the grandstand-like rising city window blind. An impressive Relikt from the Byzantine Kaiser era is the old aquaduct. The old tobacco storage halls in the city center accommodate today cafes, restaurants and modern schopping centres, however them surround still flair and smell of the past bloom times of the tobacco trade. Enjoy an unforgettable walk at the port promenade past at pictorial fischerbooten.
ISLAND THASSOS

A daily trip on the green island Thassos you should be able to be escaped in no case-wildly and in the northeast, with steeply dropping wooded ravines and fantastischen beaches, gently in the southwest, with flatten unaffected, touristic opened sand beaches.
